1995- CHRISTMAS DAY.
Her name is Bisola, one of Nonye’s closest friends. Bisola was always very hyper-active. Nonye met her while she was in Canada for university.
Bisola already started planning the baby shower, picking baby girl names and asking if a six-week old foetus already kicks. Bisola was always like that, yapping away in her American accent and trying to use Nigerian slangs that sounded really funny when she spoke. Nonye prayed her husband would be the quiet type.
Christmas had been such a blessing to Nonye, ever since she became Mrs. Kalu two years ago. She remembered how fun their first Christmas was, she lied to her friends that she would be travelling to the village for the holiday so she could spend quality time with her loving husband, and she did, they danced, ate, watched movies, made love and slept off naked, and a bit drunk in each other’s arms. That was a Christmas she would never forget, it was a very memorable and crazy one, and Ikenna is the kind of Man to spend such a moment with, someone crazier than she was.
This Christmas would be an unforgettable one as well, Nonye thought to herself as she lay in his arms watching While you were sleeping, the trending Christmas film. Anxiety and excitement clashed in her mind as she waited for the right time to tell him.
"Ikenna." Nonye says softly, almost in a whisper.
Whenever she calls his name like that, Ikenna thinks back to 1989 Christmas Eve, she still says it the same way, the exact same sexy and seductive way.
“Yes baby” Nonye loved when he called her baby, but it was going to be a surprising pun because of what she was about to say.
“We are having a baby” Nonye says and Ikenna jumps up excitedly.
“Baby?, Nonye, you are pregnant?” Nonye tears up, smiles and nods.
“Thank you Jesus!...wow!” he says and hugs Nonye tightly and lifts her up, sits her down and begins to rub her stomach. He places his ear on her stomach and she begins to laugh, it is impossible to hear a heart beat at this stage of the pregnancy. Ikenna was evidently excited, he loved children and he knew that he and Nonye would make such beautiful babies together.
